Our Ageism Monitoring Network is a powerful activism tool in the fight against ageist stereotypes.

It provides a critical watchdog function that identifies and counters unfair representations of older people in media coverage. When negative stereotypes or age biases are detected our network members are mobilized to (respectfully) convey our concerns to media outlets. We work together to educate editors, journalists, and columnists about the social consequences of their ageist rhetoric and to demand more responsible reporting.

The network is particularly aimed at combating the five most harmful ways elders are depicted in media and popular culture.

Get Involved!

  • Join our network. It’s easy! Just sign-up above and you’ll start receiving action alerts when we identify instances of ageism. Each action alert e-mail will provide you with steps you can take to respectfully respond to the author, reporter or columnist, etc.

  • Report the ageism you see. We need your help to ensure we are able to respond to the greatest number of important instances of ageism. Please report to us any unfair or defamatory coverage of elders by e-mailing ageism@agingwatch.com.

  • Spread the word. The objective of this work is to change the social understanding of, and treatment toward, older people. Increasing accountability in media coverage is critical. But it is also important that we engage everyday citizens and help them to understand the ramifications of ageism. So please help us take our message viral. For example, you can follow us on twitter or add a link on your website to ours.

Thank you for your help in combating ageism in our culture!
